CIC (Switzerland) recorded a net profit of CHF 25.2 million for the first half of 2025, in line with the half-yearly results of recent years, albeit CHF 3.4 million or 11.7% down from June 2024, which was an exceptional record year. The decline was driven by a reduced interest margin, with the lower interest rates and tensions in the Swiss money market having an impact. The risk provisioning associated with prudent management and a rise in personnel costs to match the bank’s ambitions for development also affected the net result. As far as the balance sheet is concerned, business volume (i.e. total assets under management plus the volume of lending) advanced 6%, a sign of how dynamic commercial activity was in the first half.
«We are still on track and have been consolidating our position since we put our 2024-2027 strategic plan in place, despite the adjustments required by the strained monetary and macroeconomic environment», said Livia Moretti, CEO of CIC (Switzerland).
Geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainties notwithstanding, the commercial teams displayed admirable dynamism. Assets under management rose 1.6% from the start of the year to CHF 19.1 billion. Lending advanced 1.5% to CHF 10.7 billion.
The successive reductions in interest rates started by the Swiss National Bank last year continued in the first half of 2025. These had an impact on gross income from interest operations (including interest expenses), which was down 6.1% compared to the figure at the end of June 2024 to CHF 58.8 million. The rise in client securities transactions and lending caused a sharp rise in the result from commission business and services, up 8% to CHF 25.8 million.
Operating expenses rose a modest 2.7% to CHF 68.5 million, mostly to do with the rise in personnel expenses due to 13 new hires (FTEs) compared to the first half of 2024. This increase in headcount is in line with the 2024-2027 strategic plan.
